Hi Brendan. The photo is a little misleading. When packed up the way it is, I also pull the boom and traveller to one side so that the companion way is left clear. The photo is taken with the boom in that position, and looks very short due to the optical illusion. I agree, in the photo, the boom looks quite small. In reality it actually comes back and overlaps the Bimini top. I am not sure of the exact measurement but I recently had to replace the bottom batten in the sail and the batten itself measured 2.5M. This photo should show it differently. The boat is a little sluggish under sail but I put that down to having 2 lower battens missing, and older sail and quite a large 3 blade fixed prop dragging in the water. Still, once the new bottom sail batten was put in recently, I managed 6 knots of boat speed in 8 knots of tail wind, with the spinnaker up. I was happy with that!! I can't wait to see what it does on a reach once I replace the #2 sail batten, which will then give me a full battened main again. best regards Garry

RL28 #125 "Sandpiper" History please
Hi Guys. My RL28 "Sandpiper" is a little over 20 years of age. It is a Mk2 model, and i was wondering if anyone here may have any history of it? I purchased it from Steven Claffey in Maryborough, Queensland, but that is about as much history as I know. Rob thinks it would be about a mid 80's boat going by the sail number (Sail# 125) If anyone has any historical information about this boat I would love to hear from you. Especially if you have some photo's. Best regards Garry Beattie RL28 Sandpiper Elliott Heads, Qld.
