Front Hatch Frame Gasket for a RL28
Can anyone help me? I have the forward hatch on my RL28 hull number Q205 leaking through the seal between the glass and the frame. Are these hatches still in manufacture? Who makes them and do they carry spare parts? How do they come apart? Thanks in advance.

John. Your hatch is a Houdini hatch, from memory USA made and I cant find them in any catolouge any more, you may need to try sealing it with silicone.

Repair of hatch
The original hatches are houdini and Muirs at Manly can probebly get them but at huge cost. If it can't be repaired it is better to replace it.

I was able to repair mine by scraping out all the old sealer with a scredriver until the glass is loose and then using a sikaflex product to re-seal it. I forget the actual product but call Sikaflex for advice - they are very helpful.

A warning though: The sikaflex is black and the tiniest trace split will cover the entire boat in black splotches so be very careful.

I repaired mine several years ago and it still does not leak - good stuff but horrible to use.

Houdini forward hatch
The good news is that the hatches were made in England but the bad is that they don't seem to exist any more. Whitworths are advertising a Gebo hatch to replace the Houdini hatch (page 159), however I fixed mine by scraping the old silicon (it had obviously leaked in a former life) and carefully injecting new.
