RL daysailer
Once had an old magazine with a picture of an RL daysailer, in the 15 to 17 ft range (i think), named something like - RL520 - (definitely not the RL15 refered to on 13/02/03 in this forum). Too time and money poor for a bigger boat, maybe something like this would fit the bill. Any info as to specs, review, were many built, etc. would be appreciated

p.s. - Great site.

Daysailer
Paul. The boat you are asking about was the " Status 580" a day sailer designed by Captain Illingworth (England). There were approx 20 built and were popular with sailing schools. They were very strongly built and should still be in sound condition.

Status 580
By my tape the "580" is closer to 5.9m or a bit over 19'. It is semi enclosed forward of the mast to give some shelter for gear or kids.

Many years ago I sailed in the Richmond River sailing club and it kept up with the much longer Rl24s. It is self draining with moulded GRP interior with built in bouyancy between the inner and outer shell. I suspect the cast iron swing centerboard is off the RL24s which consequently gives a high ballast/weight ratio. It is a very nice boat to sail. Last year I cruised it up the inside of Fraser island. This has given me the inspiration to do more cruising. Consequently I am looking for a cruising boat with beds and the Status is going up for sale.

I am asking $5,750 with trailer and 4hp Mariner. The outboard pushes it along nicely at half throttle. More throttle gives a lot of noise but little increase in speed.

It tows nicely and easily behind my 1990 3.0Liter Nissan Skyline.

Daysailer Correction
Paul The Status was designed by Vande Stadt not Illingworth as previously stated .
