The "Gerr Downhaul" System - Anyone tried this on RL24?
Has anyone tried a "Gerr Downhaul" for the Jib on an RL24 as nicely described in the URL below? http://www.widgetsailor.com/myboat/downhaul/jline.html

If not, what other systems have you tried to make short-hand sailing [single] easier?

Fair winds to my friends down-under as you look forward to the warmer weather and I look towards the big freeze.

jib downhaul
I am currently rigging my RL 24 for short handed sailing. I had planned to fit a simple downhaul using the line for the spinaker pole downhaul (suitably lengthened and rigged forward). You suggestion is now my planned way of lowering the jib. The simple things are generally the best and this one is certainly simple. I love it. Thanks.

Small modification
In giving the Gerr downhaul some thought - - I am going to try and attach two small pullies to the jib [rather than the front stay as originally shown] so that the Gerr downhaul is part of the jib sail. This way, when I change sails I do not have to re-thread the downhaul line. I will let you know how this works for me. Regards, Hal PS-Any other short-hand tips would be appreciated.

Gerr - I gave it a try
For me, the Gerr downhaul did not work as well as I wanted it to. I tried a few modification but the easy, straightforward downhaul worked very nicely. If someone figures out the details on the Gerr downhaul for the RL24, please post a note.
