Identifying my RL
Hi all, first post here, I'm trying to identify my RL24, the seller tells me it is a 1984 MKIII, but the sail number is 108 which makes no sense, it is a swing keel, is there any way to identify my RL?

Re: Identifying my RL
The main RL24 page describes the differences but it can be difficult to tell Mark 1 from Mark 2. The centreboard is noticeably heavier but you would need another boat to compare.
However the Mark 3 and 4 have a much wider gunwale as shown in the image. The mark 1 is on the left with the narrow gunwale.

Mark 4 have a lifting centreboard rather than the swing board.
If anyone has pictures showing the difference between Marks 1 & 2 please send them.

The sail number suggests a Mark 2.

Re: Identifying my RL
Thank you for your reply Keith, do you have any idea of the measurement of the gunwale on the later MKIII and MKIV?
Mine is aluminium and 46mm from top to bottom.

Re: Identifying my RL
Does anyone know the gunwale measurement for a MkIII? It's hard to tell from the picture in the post above.

Re: Identifying my RL
Check with Keith he may mean cockpit combing width. Mark 1 has a narrow rounded combing. Mark 2 and 3 have wider flat top combing. Mark 2 and 3 have more freeboard approx 300mm more than the Mark1.

Re: Identifying my RL
Thank you for the replies, via the facebook page I've ascertained that it is a MKIII.
Tony.
