Melbourne Trailable Yacht Club Four Points Race starts on April 20

03 Apr 2013
Melbourne Trailable Yacht Club Four Points Race is to be held on Port Phillip, Saturday 20 April. The race starts off St Kilda and is open to all trailable yachts and sports boats with a Yachting Australia Class Based Handicap.

The inaugural event last year attracted just shy of 40 boats and some changes have been made to the event for this year to attract boats from further afield.

The event takes its name from the course which takes in four points of Port Phillip; Point Ormond just south of St Kilda, Green Point off Brighton, Point Cook off the suburb of the same name and Point Gellibrand off Williamstown. The course is sailed in a port or starboard direction depending on weather conditions allowing the race committee some flexibility to set a fair and enjoyable course within the format of the race.

The focus of the event is to have fun whilst enjoying racing in a good sized, all trailable fleet.

The event is to be held in three divisions including a non-spinnaker, crusing division. Division 1 boats sail the full 20nm course whilst Division 2 and 3 boats substitute Fawkner Beacon for Point Cook for a shorter 14nm course. The two courses ensure that the event entertains the full spectrum of trailable yachts and sports boats.

The Four Points Race is also the final heat of the Yachting Victoria Trailable Yacht Division Traveller’s Series.

After the race, entrants are invited to head to Melbourne City Marina, Docklands for post-race presentations and a social evening among their fellow competitors.

MTYC will be using TackTracker® race tracking software to enable each boat to submit their GPS log of the race, the software enables competitors to replay and analyse the race online. A great tool for reviewing what tactics worked best and generally reliving the fun of the day.

For further details about the event, including a list of entrants to date and details about overnight at Melbourne’s Docklands, refer www.mtyc.yachting.org.au or email mtyc.au@gmail.com

Rl 24 Sting in the Four points Race
Google 'Melbourne Trailer Yacht Club' go to results and then click on the Four Points Race then click on 'TackTracker division' and you can then zoom in on Lloyd Graham’s RL24 Sting and see how well she went to windward against the other faster TYs She was only past going downwind in the last leg ( smaller spinnaker). This new tracking software is really tops and it shows up all the poor sailers who are not sailing well to windward and not getting into the groove after going about quick enough.

Well done Lloyd I will watching next year
