sail no 420 RL24 - what does that infer?
Can those holding such knowledge come forward? The boat is meant to be a MK111. What information does the sail number offer about the boat? The boat's name is Ruby Jay and past owner didn't know much about its history.
Thanking the wise one (s) in advance.
Thank you,
Ian

Re: sail no 420 RL24 - what does that infer?
My boat has sail # 444 and I am led to beleive that it is original and that my boat was built in 1984. As I purchased it from the original buyer that should be correct.
Good luck and enjoy

Thank you Martyn but I'm none the wiser. Does that mean that 420 was built 24 boats prior to yours? If so, is yours a MK111 and what nubmer did MK111s begin?
I'm trying to determine the MK and build date of the boat.
Thanks,
Ian

I have a mk 1 with sail number 400, I wouldn't trust sail number alone as its possable to have had a few sail changes since being built.

I sail a MK 3,(1982 model) and the sail no is 412.
Tigress is at RQ in Brisbane.

Ian. Your sail number 420 infers that that your boat was the 420th boat built, and it would be a Mk3 that was constructed in late 1983.
The boats were allocated sail numbers in order, with just a few exceptions by request. ie. "Calibre" requested 303 etc.
The only true way to determine the model is by looking at the hull it self. ie. Mk3 boats had the freeboard increased by 50mm, rig,and interior alterations, and the swing keel weight was increased by 20Kg. Unfortunatly some boats that raced and upgraded sold off their sails to older boats without changing the numbers.

Re: sail no 420 RL24 - what does that infer?
I have placed an entry in sail numbers on page 4 of the forum. Puzzle. Ian says he has Ruby Jay September 2007. James Clow says he cruised her for about a year before we purchased her from him in November 2007.According to another entry she was still at Noosa in 2007. The plot thickens. Hitchcock might have resolved it, I can't. HELP! Gareth and Bill
