Backstay Attachment RL28
My current arrangement is a single backstay tensioned a pulley arrangement anchored to the boat at the base of the rear pushpit uprights.
It looks a little dodgy to me - especially the poor bachup plates under the deck, and I was thinking of fitting dual backstays with proper chainplates.
Any advice?
If possible, please send a sketch or photo to:
I would prefer to buy them off the shelf.

Re: Backstay Attachment RL28
Your backstay setup sounds like the normal arrangement. I am not aware of anyone having problems such as pulling the pushput out of the deck. The bolts holding it down are large and should have large washers to help distribute the pull. If you are concerned, you could put larger plates under the pushpit mounting bolts to better distribute the loads. Because of the swept-back spreaders and 3/4 rig, there is not a lot of load on the backstay anyway and it is used more for mast bend, and it is important if using a masthead genoa or spinnaker.

Thanks Keith

I am a relatively new owner, and am finding things that I am unsure of. The current attachment leaves a bit to be desired.
