Uses for RL24 Ice Box
Anyone use their ice box for storage or any other uses. It's such a massive space that it seems a waste to use it for cold stuff when an esky should suffice. I'm thinking for cruising. For a day out the ice box is great for food and beers. Any thoughts?

Beer! I use it for beer. Though occasionally I use it for beer.

Seriously though. Its the best place. I can access it when at the helm or anywhere in the cockpit. Opposing locker I use for tools, fishing lines etc.

Re: Uses for RL24 Ice Box
I use the port side locker for oils polish merho for stove and other messy stuff.

I use the starboard locker for lines ropes BBQ fuel boat hook sea anchor and other dry stuff.

Not sure how long ice would last the lockers in INMA are not insulated.

As for beer we tend to have a dry boat when sailing with an ocasional ale when at anchor if we don't need the ice for food storage.

Re: Uses for RL24 Ice Box
Are we talking about the same thing. I'm talking about the icebox in the cabin, not the storage in the cockpit. The storages in the cockpit I use for fuel, spare parts, flares, etc.

I have a MK3 with a ice box to port and a stove and sink to starboard.

Beers in the cockpit though, a good idea. Greg, I admire your discipline.

Oh INMA is a drop keel model hence no icebox and we keep an esky on the floor which acts as a step when going below.

Re: Uses for RL24 Ice Box
i've heard the crew of Sangria use the icebox to keep their underpants
fresh during races like the Bay to bay. After a few days away there is nothing like a crispy fresh pair of blue ringers.

Re: Uses for RL24 Ice Box
On Sangria we have an ice box in the port cockpit locker which we use for beer. We also have a starboard cabin ice box which we use for beer. We also carry an esky for our Bundy. As for underpants in iceboxes, we tend not to wear any.

Re: Uses for RL24 Ice Box
I always thought sailors were a responsable bunch unlike their stink boating cousins, but it seems i've been proven wrong! ANYONE WHO HEADS OUT WHITHOUT UNDERWEAR IS JUST ASKING FOR TROUBLE! ps have you thought about the anchor well? you can hold about 2 1/2 cartons and ice just drains away.

IS IT THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN?
BAY TO BAY fever must be in the air.
The crew from 'GAYABANDMENT' START TO GET EXCITED ABOUT SMELLY JOCKS AND LOTS OF BEER.
SEE YA AT GARRY'S AND TRY YOUR ANCHOR WELL ICE BOX.
