Recommended sail area for RL24
I have an old RL24. I'm interested in its performance with different sails. Like the boat, our sails are old, but serviceable. I note that class rules limit working sail area to 20 sqm. It's interesting that we use a genoa that is substantially larger than what seem class measurements, and with the battened main appears to impede our progress rather than help! Besides speed, pointing suffers. From your experience, what do you see as the optimum sail area for all round performance? It would seem from our limited experience that the boat performs in most winds better with the smaller headsail the we have. Any comments you have would be appreciated.

I also have a No.1 and a No.2 genoa, and a 35 sqm spinnaker but I am also of the same opinion as you that the standard sail area is the best

I had the same feeling about the genoa slowing us rather than speeding us up. We widened the mounting point for the sheets by attaching blocks out wider on the lower deck at the fence posts and it changed the genoa so instead of getting pushed sideways it drives forward. Good luck! PS I am after a second hand spinnaker at the right price
