Keel Winch
Has anyone come across a good alternate to a small trailer winch for the keel, I would prefer an electric winch. I havent seen or heard of any examples or even small comercially available elec motors for this purpose. I thought my wife was just having a winge, that was until I accidently disengaged the lock and the handle hit me in the wrist.'

Re: Keel Winch
What do you do for a backup when the cheap winch fails (as a lot of them do)?
I have a block and tackle system; two double blocks at the top of the mast support post and a treble of the keel lift wire. I think the boat (Mk3) was set up that way from day 1.
It's quick, easy and can be operated from the cockpit.

Cheers

Re: Keel Winch
Could someone post a pic on this forum or email one of the pulley setup for the keel. I would like to change over to this system but would like to see the sizes of hardware and lock of points for the rope.

Re: Keel Winch
Being the new owner of an RL 24 ( Phantom II sail No. 423 ) which appears to be a Mk IV mode since it is fitted with a drop keel, I am trying to find out whether anybody may have or is there a standard drawing of the mechanism to raise and lower the drop keel as the current mechanism which I inherited, consisting of two four pulley turning blocks is almost impossible to use and very cumbersome.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Re: Keel Winch
My Mk4 has six pulleys top and bottom and is fine but 4 would not provide enough leverage. The lifting line is the same diamater ans the mainsheet so it has lots of size to grip it well with gloved hands. I do have to lubricate my pulleys occasionally

Re: Keel Winch
Greg,
Would it be possible for you to send me a photo or drawing of your setup.
Thanks in anticipation
