Birthday
Hi All
My RL24 Apache must be approaching her 30th Birthday and I am planning to give her some presents and have a little party. Does anyone out there in RL Land know anything about launch dates for individual boats ? Mine is 161.

Re: Birthday
Perhaps a good time for the party would be 1st weekend in May? And how about Garry's anchorage for a venue? Perhaps you could invite all the other Qld RL's.
Cheers

Re: Birthday
Apache will certainly be at Garrys - its a good idea for a venue with the number of RL's who usually turn up. I was hoping Rob would have an idea on Apache's launch date as I think he campaigned her.

Re: Birthday
Nomad.
Apache was certainly launched in 1975 around mid year but I can't remember an exact date. She went on to win the South Australian Tripolas that year. She will be 30 this year, please give her a pat for me, and give her a good party.
Best regards, Rob Legg

Re: Birthday
Thanks for that Rob. The only decission now is to have her party at Garrys during the Bay to Bay or at her current home the Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club. Do any other Mark 1's want to join in?

Re: Birthday
I have a Mk1 named Jazzee, sail number 46 that will be in the Bay to Bay and would love to crack a few tinnies over her bow at Garries.

Garry's anchorage is on the inside of Fraser Island and is the overnight stop for the annual Tin Can Bay to Hervey Bay trailer sailer race.
How to get there: drive to Tin Can Bay on the Friday of the May long weekend, socialize at the Yacht Club on Friday night, attend the briefing on Saturday morning and then do what Apache and Touche do, follow Hart Beat.
If you want an entry form, send an address and I'll have one mailed.

Re: Birthday
I am sure there are a lot of non racers in the RL fraternity and I was thinking that Garry's could be supplemented with a gathering at Noosa either before or after the Bay to Bay. Why Noosa? Well I live there and Rob Legg is reported to live close by and I have been wondering if a bunch of us got together whether he would be interested in maybe coming out to have a chat.

Re: Birthday
A gathering at Noosa is a wonderful idea - as a non-competitive RL owner I would walk barefoot over broken glass to be there! I would be happy to attempt a ring-around to owners if they are contactable? Extra good if Rob were able to make it...

Re: Birthday
If the party were to be at Noosa would it be with or without boats?
If "with", would there be a bit of sailing involved? The potential for an annual "Apache's Birthday" event shouldn't be overlooked. I suspect a bottle of rum could be found if required.
Cheers

We have Spiral Navigator #47... mkl and I think this might be an excursion that we could maybe plan for a run from melb to... to sail the tincan bay race, put in and then socialise at Noosa then live on board for a few days and grab a few waves maybe...pls send an entry form to Wayne Hill PO Box 400 Rosebud Vic 3939 (and I will start negotiations)

I have passed your request to race secretary, Ross Bews.
When you get to Tin Can Bay on Friday April 29, make yourself known to the crews of Hart Beat, Touche, Apache, Rebel, Kanatamata, Canuk, Sarnia, Jazzee, Mistress, Chinook, Tarcoo, Beach Inspector, Geronimo to name a few who were there last year. I expect Rosebud has changed a bit since I passed through on my way to a holiday at Sorrento in the mid 50's
Cheers

Re: Birthday
Hi All
It looks like there is some interest in having a gathering at Noosa. It would probably suit to have it either before or after the Bay to Bay. Before could be preferable as some boats hang around Fraser Island after the race for some post race cruising. The weekend before is the 23/24 of April. Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club has good facilities and would be a good base. The Noosa River and adjacent lakes offer interesting cruising and a fair area of protected waterways. I enjoy getting up into the Upper Noosa River through the Everglades and on to Harrys Hut. There are the options of this wilderness or you can anchor within 100m of Hastings Street and yuk it up with the uppities.
The Yacht Club races on Sunday afternoon with kites as well as WAGS on Wed afternoon (no kites). The racing is very friendly and very social and visitors are always welcome.
So if any of you are interested I would like to get an idea of what date/dates suit best. Perhaps a Saturday or Sunday or both cruise/race followed by dinner at the Club. Visitors staying on can head out and explore the area before the racers head on to Tin Can Bay later in the week.
