RL 28 Replacement hatch
could any one help me with a replacement front hatch for the Rl28. I need to replace mine and have had no luck in finding one the right size as the size is restricted because of the raised turret section above the deck it sits on. Would appreciate a model or brand name of a hatch I could buy

Re: RL 28 Replacement hatch
Typically, the RL28 has a Houdini front hatch - they are apparently still available in Britain - leaf through a Practical Boat Owner magazine and look at the large chandlery ads - not sure about freight or a local distributor

Re: RL 28 Replacement hatch
The Houdini hatch can probably be ordered through Muir Marine at Manly in Brisbane. However, they have a poor reputaion for leaks when they age. I suggest you see if you can find another brand that fits.

RL 28 hatch - repairing leaks
I should have added that if you are replacing the hatch because it leaks, an alternative is to fix the leak. You can scrape out the old sealant with a screwdriver or similar until the glass is loose. Contact Sikaflex for the best sealant to use in this application. I did this very successfully - not as smoothly applied as the original but waterproof none-the-less after 4 years. See elsewhere on this forum for others who have solved this problem (Search for Houdini)

Re: RL 28 Replacement hatch
Thanks Keith, I have already successfully replaced sealant around glass as you have and was succesfull, but now I have other problems with the hinges coming adrift slightly and the protection bars on top coming off. I went on the Houdini hatch site on the net and have ordered the exact hatch from England for a total cost of about $517 Australian dollars delivered to my house. The hatch is currently going through customs at Brisbane Airport and will arrive at my house soon. The hatch is actually listed as a Houdini 500 super hatch and the people at houdini hatches in England were very helpful and contacted me by email on several occasions to confirm it was the correct hatch, thanks very much for your help in this matter Keith
